Water, just like air is the important factor required for our existence. We all have heard at one point that water is life and every life depends on water for nourishment. While talking about mineral water, many people consider packaged water as mineral water; however, such is not the case. There is a vast difference between packaged water and mineral water but many have no idea about it, so, let’s clarify it. Mineral water contains minerals or other substances that alter its taste giving it a beneficial value. Salt, sulphur and gases are among the substances dissolved in the water. Mineral water can be sparkling. Also, it is referred as the carbonated water.
Packaged drinking water is just the packed water from well or distilled water, which may be carbonated. There are various types of packaged water like underground water, purified water, well water, etc. Key Difference: Mineral water is the water that contains minerals, which can be added artificially or can be natural whereas packaged water is is preserved to ensure that the water is safe and clean to consume. Source of water (starting place) is rich in minerals and so is a place like rivers and lake. Mineral water provides good nutrients and some extra benefits. It undergoes the treatment to remove the impurities before it is bottled to consume. Mineral water is only filtered and not chemically treated, there is no addition. The natural content remains intact in water. Mineral water is also one type of packaged water. But the packaged water is non-mineral water. This type of water is free from minerals and is just purified to consume. It is sealed to ensure the safety. Even though it is purified and tested, it is not healthier than mineral water. However, it surely doesn’t mean that packaged water will cause illness. There are many manufacturers who say that mineral water is treated and tested before packing. If there is any fault then it will result in poor quality. Also, the mineral water near the source is safe to consume and is packed without treatment thus meeting the quality standards. But over the years there are a lot of ecological changes and water is polluted by by-products. So, now water is treated and tested before exporting it to consume. Bottled water undergoes many purification techniques like sedimentation, distillation, filtration and reserve osmosis. The chemicals are also used while chlorination to purify the water causing it to be of no health benefit. Compared to tap water, the cost of packed water is costly because it goes through many processes before it is delivered. While mineral water exists naturally or it doesn’t have many purification techniques is far less costly. Mineral water has a longer shelf life as compared to packed water. Packed water life tends to in between 3-6 years; it may vary from company to company. These are the basic differences between the packed and mineral water. It is better to know the value before using it.
